The attached maps represent the percentage of children ages 5-12 enrolled with OPI, who have working parents, for whom afterschool services were available on a daily basis from September 2005 through June 2006. They do not include full day, evening, weekend, holiday and summer programs. This is a snapshot of daily capacity rather than annual enrollment.
Public school enrollment figures have been provided by the Montana Office of Public Instruction. Montana children (K-6) with working parents (65%) was obtained from KIDS COUNT (Annie E. Casey Foundation, 2005). The number of school-age children served in licensed centers was accessed by a telephone survey based on information provided by the Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services, Quality Assurance Division/Child Care Licensure Bureau. The number of school-age children served in other afterschool programs was accessed by a telephone survey based on information provided by stated-level youth organizations and local informants.
